This decorative, ever-blooming succulent from South America prefers much drier conditions than many gardens in the true tropics can provide, but it is still often seen in rockeries, raised containers, and hanging baskets where good drainage can be insured. It has thick stems and fleshy leaves. One form produce yellow, pink, red and purple flowers on the same plant , while another has large, double magenta blooms. The flowers open in the morning when sun strikes the plant. Propagation is by means of cuttings and seeds
